[tweetmeme source=”cbyndas” only_single=false]Ever learn to do something for the first time and think, “wow this was hard”? Then you do the same task another twenty times and like magic that very same task has become easier? But really, does anything actually get easier? Nope, nadda, not one bit same task every time!
The magic is in how things become familiar as we do them and when they are familiar they seem much easier. Life moves fast; there is a new way of doing things every other month. Uggh, so many new things to learn! It is comforting to know that things are never as hard as they first seem. Not being familiar is our problem, not the degree of difficulty, and it is an easy problem to solve. We just need to embrace the new tasks and become familiar.
Being in the talent management business I realize the ability to embrace change and quickly become familiar with a new task (DO IT) has become a key quality that employers are looking for in new hires. Gone are the days when an employee could stay static in their knowledge; companies now require that every hire has the ability to learn new tasks on a weekly basis.
So if you need to learn a new technical task, start with the confidence that it is not going to be as hard as it seems; all you need to do is get familiar. With every step it will get easier. Just think…you have been learning new things since the day you were born, you were born to learn!
