[tweetmeme source=”cbyndas” only_single=false]On Saturday I spent the morning working at a local food distribution center where food that would be discarded because it is close to its expiration date is repackaged. This particular Saturday there was a special “buzz” in the room, created by the stress of the season. If you are not aware, this week is one of the “hard” weeks in the food relief business since 20,000 more mouths will need to be fed. Schools are letting out and that means No Free Lunch!
With the end of school, the start of summer means lazy mornings, running through sprinklers, playing cards on the back porch and, for some, going to bed hungry. The local food pantry is the only hope these kids have for three meals a day.
So here is my challenge to all of my business friends, reach out to your local food bank and donate what you would spend on a lunch out at the office. If we all did this once a week over the summer we could feed thousands of kids that really do need a free lunch.
If you are in the metro Detroit area consider donating your lunch money to Forgotten Harvest; they are the best at food rescue!
